Agree this is a concern for me as well. I have one n95 but save it for more lengthy exposures but always wear homemade mask, covered with the paper mask from Dr's office, in the ellevator and halll. We only go one at a time in the elevator.
i also have this problem, elevator is not even 6 feet wide. I wonder if spraying a aerosol such as lysol disinfectant or chlorine/water solution into elevator before entering would get any virus micro droplets to drop to floor. I wear a chinese KN95 mask when i am in hallways, elevator and laundry room. I worry about my eyes though, all the goggles i have do not allow the wearing of Rx glasses. Laundry room is my biggest fear , as the time spent in there in much longer then the elevator.
replying to my own comment . i was able to find goggles that fit over my glasses.
Get a face shield in that casr. They're not expensive and you can reuse them a long, long time if you disinfect them.
This is a question I have received as well. Here is an answer from an article I contributed to in HuffPost, which including using a laundry mat, which same rules would apply. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/how-long-coronavirus-live-clothing-washing_l_5e724927c5b6eab779409e74
